  I've just heard that the ABC has decided not to renew the Glass House.
  
  Okay hands up who saw this coming when they introduced their new editorial policies?
  
  I'd like to thank all those voters who decided that the current government could be trusted enough to have control over both houses. Thanks to you we now have a government who is essentially answerable to no one.
  
  The ABC has always been a thorn in the side of the government of the day, whether its Labor or Coalition. With the new editorial policies, its now been reduced to a shadow of its former self, and the cause of political satire in this country has been dealt a massive blow.
  
  As Kattekrab in #linux-aus said, "I wonder howlong the chaser guys will last..."

  However seeing as this is family I'm going to make an exception.
  
  My mum and stepdad run a pretty successful Face Painting and Clowning operation and we're in the process of building their site.

  Open Source On The Air - Changes

  Okay I know I've been slack in blogging over the last week or so, so here's an update.
  
  we're making some changes to the programme. After ten weeks of running as a weekly programme we've decided to move back to doing it fortnightly. We've done this for a couple of reasons, firstly its getting a bit hard to fill an hour each week, as people tend to be a bit shy about what they're doing :), secondly real life tends to interfere a bit and going to fortnightly allows us to work both in together much better.
  
  As well as making the timing change, we're expanding out focus. Rather than being just focused on Australia, we're moving into oceania and exploring whats happening both across the pond in New Zealand further afield.
  
  Karins also in the process of re-thinking the LUG Roundup but I'll let her blog about that.
  
  Keeping that in mind, the next episode of Open Source On The Air will go to air tomorrow night at 9:30pm (UTC+1000).
  
  On a fosscasts.org note I should just like to mention that I've recieved a pilot episode from a group in Indonesia who are interested in taking on the OSOTA-SEA slot. Things are continuing apace.

  Tooling with VOIP stuffs

  Okay I've setup asterisk, I can make and receive calls, but due to the fact I don't have any digium/zaptel cards I can't seem to get it to record :(
  
  So what this means is that I still have to rely on Skype for my interviews.
  
  When the latest version of Skype was released I thought cool and installed it. Well bleh.
  
  For those of you who've listened to the interviews from last weeks show, you can hear what the result of that was. Crackle and distortion galore. It turns out that the new version of Skype doesn't like working with the current version of Skype-rec-kracken, or even oss2jack.
  
  After a bit of testing last night with TheMuso and the rest of the guys in #localfoss I grabbed the 1.2 version of Skype and we now have glorious crackle/distortion free sound.
  
  It also turns out that we now have the ability to run conferences with participants who can't/won't use Skype. The Skype conferencing system now allows you to include landlines in conferences.
  
  So for tomorrow nights show I am aiming to put together a panel discussion on either GPLv3 or any other topic that anyone wants to suggest.

  Given the technical difficulties we experienced and the lateness of the call for calls, we didn't really get that many call ins for the show last night (fosscasts of which will be up later on today).
  
  So I'm going to issue another "Call for the Opinionated!"
  
  For this weeks topic, we're looking at which language is best!
  
  You will have five minutes to tell us which out of the following:
  

  • Ruby
  • Python
  • Perl
  • PHP

  
  So call 9999@k-sit.com on any SIP compliant system and rant away.

  Changes to Story Submissions

  It would appear I was being too ambitious when I started localfoss.org with the intention of being the source of all news for the site.
  
  So what I am doing is inviting you dear reader in. I have changed the site so that registered users can submit stories to the site for moderation by myself and Karin (thats the Editorial team for the moment).
  
  So if you are reading this and you have a story that you think fits the purpose of LocalFOSS then have a read of our submission guidelines and submit away.
